FAQ’s – Ordering

When should I order my invitations?
As a rule of thumb, give yourself more time than you think you need.

  • Non-wedding invitations, announcements, and save-the-dates should be ordered at least two to three weeks before you would like to mail them.
  • Wedding Save the Dates, if determined to be necessary, should be sent as soon as possible (~8-10 months in advance). If you are going to have a wedding website, it should be complete prior to sending these out, as this is the ideal vehicle for sharing that information.
  • You really can’t order wedding invitations too soon, but at a bare minimum, two months prior to your target mailing date.

How many should I order?
Unless noted, all of our products are available in increments of 20. When in doubt, round up. Especially when it comes to wedding invitations and baby announcements, friends and family appreciate “clean” copies as keepsakes. And almost any event – from a wedding to a housewarming bash – ends up having a few last-minute guest list additions, so plan ahead.

Is there a minimum order?
Non-wedding products are available in increments of 20 unless otherwise noted. Our minimum order for wedding invitations/suites is 40.

What about envelopes?
All of our products include envelopes personalized with the return address, and many include coordinating design elements. All of our exterior (mailing) envelopes are light-colored because the USPS can refuse to take them if the black or red inks they use won’t show, and if they do take them, they are likely to use an unsightly label for the cancellation. 

Can I pre-order envelopes?
For birth announcements, absolutely. Select your announcement, and make sure to check the "Early Delivery Envelopes" box on your order page. Extra shipping charges will apply, although there is no additional fees. Notify us when your little one has arrived, and we’ll spring into action on the rest!

Do you offer calligraphy or addressing services?
We do not offer calligraphy, but can provide vendor names upon request.

How do I order?
To protect our customers, all Modern Nectar transactions need to take place over our secure online server. Our top notch customer service is available via email. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal. Payment is due in full at the time of ordering, except for custom designs.(See “couture and custom designs” page for those details.) We do not accept personal checks, money orders, candy, or shoes. (Although if you’re talking Louboutins, call us. We can discuss.)

FAQ: What happens after I place an order?

Step One: Order Acknowledgment
Unless there is a disclaimer on the homepage – and it will be large and hard to miss – you will receive a personal order acknowledgment from a real, live human being within 24 to 48 hours of placing a payment online. All our email addresses are closely monitored, and we encourage you to ask any questions at that time.

Step Two: Proofs
For all of our customized products except couture work: Within 72 business hours (M-F, not including holidays) – usually faster, and unless otherwise notified – you will receive a color PDF proof via email to the address you provided upon checkout. (The PDF will require Adobe PDF software to view; you can download it for free here: Adobe Reader) The email will contain instructions for approval or edits. You get to change your mind one time on us, but after that, unless we have somehow made the copy in the proof vary from that which was provided to us at the time of purchase, there will be a $10 charge per additional change.

You will need to sign off on the PDF in writing for us to go to print. (More on this in the next step …)

Step Three: Production

We will not print anything without your written (emailed) consent. This means that unless we screw up (perish the thought!), reprinting anything that has already been produced is on your tab. So get your friends, neighbors, countrymen, and pets to proofread your copy for you, even after you’ve done it 100 times. Keep an eye out for spelling, grammar, and especially the names of places. You’ll be glad you did!

You will be advised of production turn-around time in your approval emails.

To keep our costs – and your prices – to a minimum, we print all products digitally. Digital printing is quick, affordable – and thanks to leaps of technology, produces elegant and vibrant colors. All stationery  is printed on heavy (80 lb) stock, but our wedding invitations are mounted for the extra style all weddings demand and deserve.

Step Four: Shipping

Prices are based on weight and your zip code. Orders are shipped directly from our studio in Washington, D.C. Customer absorbs all shipping costs. Modern Nectar is not responsible for damaged or missing items shipped third party directly to the customer.

FAQ: I’ve received my products, and …

How much do these babies cost to mail?
Unless you’ve added anything to the envelope, all of our non-wedding invitations, announcements, and personal stationery from our standard line should take the standard letter weight stamp. For all wedding invitations, custom projects, and if you’ve enclosed anything in one of our other products, please take a trip to your local post office and have the size evaluated and the weight checked. Modern Nectar is not responsible for any items returned from the postal service for insufficient fees, under any circumstances.

I’m not happy. Fix it!
Trust us, if there is one thing which flips our switches (and not in a good way), it’s shoddy customer service. We love what we do, and we want you to feel the love! Here’s how we recommend you handle the following issues …

First off, please contact info@modernnectar.com immediately upon deciding there is an issue, no matter what it is. We have a better chance of making everything better if you let us know right away.

If … you feel the quality is not what you expected, we will reprint or refund your money, as you prefer, once the product is returned to us. The cost of supplies, shipping, and any design fees will be deducted from the refund or store credit amount and extra shipping applied if relevant. However, please note that some of our items are hand-made or hand-finished and thus minor variations in appearance of the final product may arise. We do not provide refunds or store credits on hand made items unless damaged or incorrect. Products must be postmarked for return within 14 days of receipt in order to qualify for a reprint or refund.

If … your product is lost in shipping between our studio and you, we will reprint at no charge and reship to you. We do not reprint, provide refunds or store credits for failed attempted deliveries from any of our shipping carriers.

If … you changed your mind after ordering (whether it was about the groom or just the color scheme)… on any custom job, if we have not yet gone to print, we will refund your money in full less the $150 deposit. However, if we have gone to print, we will refund the balance after the cost of supplies, shipping, and any design fees.

By submitting any materials to Modern Nectar, you automatically grant, or warrant that the owner of such any materials has expressly granted, Modern Nectar the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such any materials (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed.

Modern Nectar and its suppliers may make improvements or changes in the information, services, products, and other materials on this site, or terminate this site, at any time without notice. Modern Nectar may modify this agreement at any time, and such modifications shall be effective immediately upon posting of the modified agreement. Accordingly, you agree to review the agreement periodically, and your continued access or use of this site shall be deemed your acceptance of the modified agreement.

Modern Nectar is not liable for information that is inaccurate due to technical defects in software used on our web sites, whether induced by our systems or by software provided by third parties.
